Perseverance
Hello all! I am taking this week to say thanks to all who have contributed to my basket making journey thus far. I have had the pleasure of having two great mentors Abe Sanchez and Lisa Valencia. I have attended multiple basket weaving classes and I am pleased to be part of a community who is keeping traditional Chumash basket weaving alive. I work on my basket weaving technique as often as I can because I do want to improve. I have provided a few pictures of the process and all of these steps are crucial to just starting a basket. In order to have the chance to work on my basket I have to complete a number of steps. The two images on the left show me soaking my materials [Upper Left] so that they become pliable to use. The other image [Bottom Left] show me sorting out color, size and cleanliness of the material in order just to get started. There are many steps not shown here, but I will talk about that at some other time. I have learned a lot and am learning all of the steps needed to make baskets from here on out. This upcoming month I hope to get at least 10 rows done on my basket. I know this is a lofty goal because the time it takes per row is substantial. I plan on having a busy month and I will keep everyone [Up To Date].
